The first ten amendments, or the Bill of Rights, in the US Constitution came to be for a purpose, and that was to ensure the basic civil rights of American citizens. This makes freedom available to all and has addressed civil rights issues throughout history. It also prevents the government from infringing on those rights. |

At the time that it was suggested, there were many opposing the idea of including it in the Constitution. People in authority feared that it might take the power away from them. It took awhile for that school of thought to change and a more modern one of democracy to be established in their hearts and minds.
One might take for granted the freedom of speech today. However, at the time that the Bill of Rights was passed, it was mostly landowners who had the freedom to voice opinions. It was after the bill was passed that the ordinary people were slowly educated about basic human rights.
Another reason why the Bill of Rights is so important is that it defines a country’s moral standard and principles.
Also, human rights are directly relevant to the judicial system. The law sees to it that human rights are enforced, and that everyone gets his fair share of civil rights. Moreover, it forbids the law to enter one’s house to search for evidence against him. It also prohibits self-incrimination in regard to capital crime.
Thus, the Bill of Rights stands up for the people, and at the same time, makes them subject to the government. Every citizen has to abide by the rules so that human rights are available to all.
